Timber Crate & Case FAQs
A crate is a large, open slatted design of timber packaging with gaps between the timbers, making it great for shipping or storing heavy or bulky items. It’s a cheaper option than a case and offers excellent airflow and ventilation. With a crate, you can see the contents, which can be handy. A case, on the other hand, is fully enclosed design of timber packaging and provides a higher level of privacy and protection from external elements. Cases are often used for oversized, fragile or sensitive items that need extra security during transportation or storage
It depends on what you need the crates for. Plastic crates are generally lighter and easier to handle, but they aren’t as strong as wooden crates. Wooden crates, especially those made of timber, can be custom-designed to hold very heavy loads, sometimes up to 30 tonne. So, if you need a crate that can carry a lot of weight, wooden crates are the better choice.
Yes, many countries require wooden crates exported from Australia, to be heat-treated to minimise the risk of pest infestation. These treated crates must have an approved stamp, often referred to as the 'bug stamp' or ISPM 15 mark, which certifies that the crate complies with international shipping standards. We are an ISPM 15 Certified company with Certification available on request.
Wooden crates and cases can be used and are ideal for any item that needs protection during its tranport or storage. Crates and cases are can be fully customised to suit heavy, oversized, bulky items and delicate goods that need extra protection. They are commonly used for shipping machinery, automotive parts, electronics, and fragile items like glassware and artwork.
