What are wooden packing crates and what are they used for?

We build wooden packing crates as purpose-engineered timber structures for goods too heavy, fragile or irregular for standard packaging. Our crates protect industrial machinery, automotive parts, mining components and high-value goods through road, sea and air freight. Where can I buy wooden packing crates in Melbourne?

Can wooden packing crates be custom-built for oversized equipment?

Yes — every crate we build is custom. Send us the equipment's weight, length, width, height and lift method, and we engineer the right timber grade, internal bracing, lid fastening and ISPM 15 compliance. How do wooden packing crates protect goods during freight?

Three protection layers: rigid timber framing that resists impact, compression and transit vibration; internal dunnage, foam padding or VCI barrier bags that cushion sensitive components; and either slatted or enclosed exterior to prevent contents from shifting during handling. For metal goods on long sea crossings, we add VCI corrosion protection inside the crate.

Are wooden packing crates reusable?

Yes — bolted-construction packing crates support multiple cycles. Common reuse: demo equipment shipping back and forth, rental machinery, return-to-base service shipments. Add 10-20% extra hardware spec for repeat-use durability (heavier hinges, replaceable contact pads). For pure one-way export, the standard spec is cheaper and works fine.

What's the lead time for wooden packing crates in Melbourne?

Standard turnaround is 2 to 5 working days from order. Complex CAD-engineered cases for heavy machinery may take 5-10 days. We work back from your vessel cut-off at Webb Dock, Swanson Dock or Tullamarine — tell us the deadline and we'll be honest about whether we can hit it. What weight can wooden packing crates handle?

Load capacity depends on timber grade, wall thickness, base bearer construction and structural design. Standard crates handle up to 1 tonne nailed; bolted heavy-duty construction handles 30+ tonnes routinely with internal steel reinforcement at lift points. Tell us the total weight when requesting a quote and we engineer the correct structural spec — no over-engineering, no under-protection.
